A Boy and a Dog

Christmas was once again a great deal of fun in 2011. Tot was very gentle with the tree, and his love for all things animal was apparent. We are weird dog people who have ornaments for our dogs. We love the real dogs and the ornaments. Clearly, Tot is following in our footsteps. He regularly smothered the dog ornaments in kisses while the tree was still up.

Tot is completely in love with both of our dogs. One of our dogs is NOT A FAN of the small human. I am not sure that she would pay attention to him if he was wearing a diaper made of cheese. The other is a willing playmate. Obviously, Tot and she enjoy playing trains. He has even balanced a train on her back as she walked past him.

I think the biggest reason they get along so well is that their ideas are complementary. Tot enjoys placing blankets over random items to play hide-and-seek. She enjoys blankets and having them over her head (she's weird). Here, he is saying, "Sadie,[where]are you?"

Again, a complementary set of ideas. Tot enjoys hugging things he loves (people, dogs, toys, paper, really ANYthing he loves). She enjoys laying around and being loved. Plus, she is always lavished with our attention after he loves on her because she is so gentle* and sweet with him - so she gets double attention!

His love for animals expands far and wide. Just today, he was "calling" a horse in a pasture that we passed on the way to daycare. Then he "whistled" for it to "come see ME".

*Please know that we do not take her gentleness for granted. We pay attention to the dog/baby interaction and don't allow him to mess with them at all while they are eating.
